Message Manager Lady I call her I’d say about three times a day She’ll always say the same thing Who did I miss? Was it you, Kate or Chris? I’m just waiting for this thing to ring And bring me closer to love She’s my pre-recorded mama and she’s programmed to please It ain’t her fault you never call me You won’t leave me a message with a howdy baby All’s I gots is a message manager lady Mailing letters through a wire they can get there pretty quick Just one click of a switch and it’s there Now my love is on file in some distant database to erase when you no longer care So I sit and I wait and I stare at this information screen yes it's cold and it’s mean and it just ain’t sexy to me You won’t leave me a message with a howdy baby All’s I gots is a message manager lady Then a mad scientist said, “come here and try this machine it can chat and drink tea” I gave it a try. It could make hours fly So I missed the phone when you called me Now its back to my old ami She’s my pre-recorded mama…

Tomorrow Already Time keeps movin on so fast I find keeping up hard to maintain I spent the whole day yesterday waiting for a ride in the rain It’s tomorrow already again It’s tomorrow. It’s tomorrow. Yesterday was today But now it’s tomorrow It’s tomorrow It’s tomorrow already again Now the bills are due and I feel screwed So I'm singin' my blues for change This money ain’t no fun it’s just a drain and there ain’t no work that I wanna do since dreamin' doesn’t pay But it’s tomorrow already again I think I’ll make a record so that I can have some riches and fame Don’t wanna wash no dishes or dig ditched at a job that is lame But it’s tomorrow already again It's tomorrow... So scrub that floor. Cook that sauce Make sure they know that you know who’s the boss Then weigh your loss against your gain and it’s tomorrow already again

Give God a Break Ricky got riled up about the middle east Upset by sights and sounds on CNN They kept sayin' how them Muslims hated freedom Wasn't no one takin' that away from him Why he could be attacked at any moment By missiles armed with anthrax, uranium or box cutters So he signed up, boot camp I said wait Give god a break He's got a lot on his plate So give him a rest from your war and your hate Ya cut him some slack and give a little bit back He could use a helpin' hand and a paper bag snack Oh he's really got it hard You're all stirred up got 'em workin' extra shifts Droppin' daddy's name, gettin' what you want Now his desk is swamped with orders for new gifts So he hired some angels when keepin' up with runnin' things got hard He gets an excess of requests, apologies and the occasional get well card So give god a break... Again with the apologies? Would you just get up off of your knees Instead of asking him to forgive you Why not do the ol' guy a favor and lay off the killin' Thou shalt not shoot on sight If he's your official invisible mascot you could at least have got that one right So give god a break...everybody

The Money Song The money has been talkin' for too long It never seems to shut up and listen to the song It don't hear no one cryin' when skies get filled with bombs It can not hear what it is doing wrong You fire a missile, money changes hands Contracts are awarded to destroy and rebuild lands War men role in resources with all their loyal fans Rejoicing in them free market demands Hunger feeds economies Now it needs war and jealousy Hunger feeds, hunger feeds Hunger feeds Economies Raising them kids takes all day everyday but it ain't in the numbers of society It's the most important job. There ain't no other way But it don't count if it doesn't pay Them diamond ring's is highly valued things But air and water are our most precious borrowings The silence of a summer day, the way a song bird sings Reminds me of what money doesn't bring Hunger feeds... It used to be that everything was free But thieves in suits are in cahoots to claim their property It wouldn't be this way if it was up to you and me Ain't got no choice in this democracy Hunger feeds economies

Ode to New Country They called it hot country when country got screwed I searched high and low but the radio spewed The same lame sequences all frequencies blew What's a true country fan supposed to do? Just turn off the radio grab your guitar you have what it takes to not be a star They build those celebrities just like a car and driven some garbage too far They're selling insurance they're sellin' their soap pushing their products like Ronnie with dope and pushing my buttons 'til I cannot cope How does a true country fan have any hope Turn off the radio... Who likes this crap? Doesn't everyone hate it? Why would they write it and then syndicate it? Have all the hillbillies been gagged and sedated? New country is overrated

Roadblock 02:21
Roadblock I see you drive to the gym for the exercise bike Jump on the treadmill and go for a hike then you complain when fuel prices spike when you could just ride a real bike This is a roadblock to stop all your spewing We're gonna to put an end to what you are doing There’s lots of nice folks around trying to breath So you and your car can just leave Some of us live right here in the city You don't give a hoot. You ain't got no pity! But now that you see that your habits are shitty Will you have compassion? Just an itty bitty? You take too much air and are you aware that we must share and I have none to spare For me on my bike do you think it’s fair? What's that? I know! You don't care Well this is a roadblock... Yes this is a roadblock to stop all your spewing We're gonna make sure you have zero emissions Lots of nice folks around trying to breath So you and your car can just leave You and your hummer can leave

Whistler's Interlude Whistling rodents watch winter resorts with contorted faces They used to do polkas but now all they sing is the blues While whistling tourists slide through the forests without the trees This modern day mountain has so many features to choose Oh look at all the happy rich people Shelling out shillings to shit at the Fairmount Chateau So come on lets go eat at the banquet They feed ya real good for 800 dollars a plate Ya they feed ya real good and it's only 800 a plate

The Edge of Town I hear the edge of town is gettin' wider We’re tradin' corn and lettuce in for lawns Pavin' over cabbage with prefabricated homes The countryside is goin’ goin’ gone The ground beneath these streets once fed families With everything that soil and sunlight makes This place once gave us everything we needed But now it only takes Farmer Jim sits a drinkin’ on the corner Below his room up on the 18th floor The kids grew up and moved in all directions Ain’t no Sunday suppers anymore While passin’ through I asked him for directions Lookin’ for the nearest grocery store He said I’d have to take the bus to get there Then he took a swig and said a little more He said "the ground beneath these streets…" I hear the edge of town is gettin' wider We’re tradin' corn and lettuce in for lawns Pavin' over cabbage with prefabricated homes The countryside is goin’ goin’ gone

I relished the thought and mustard up The courage to ask you out I relished the thought and mustard up The courage to ask you out But my thoughts would ketchup Red hots! Get your red hots!

Take Me With 02:12
Take Me With Everybody’s going somewhere But nobody ever wants to Take me with 'em I got my thumb stuck out to see But nobody will stop for me ‘cause no one ever wants to take me with 'em Did you see that RV that drove past me T'was surely someone’s home away from home It was towing a Jeep that was towing a trailer with satellite dish and geodesic dome Everybody’s going somewhere... Then suddenly someone stopped for me Those flashing signal lights were making me fee high I ran to hop in but they spun dirt in my face Never stopped long enough for me to say goodbye Everybody’s going somewhere...,/p> Old grey cloud why here why now? Why won't anyone pick me up? If you must cry, let me be dry Seems like I ain't got no luck

You and Me 03:00
You and Me Darlin’ you Darlin’ you Darlin’ you and me together I’ve been a drinkin’, thinkin’ and stinkin’ of ya How I love ya from head to toe You know I want you how you want to be Still I’m wishin’ I could figure out what I want to do with you and me Darlin’ you... You know I’m a no good ramblin’ picker Quick to change my scenery But you won’t take good advice and you keep on seein’ me So come along if you wanna have some fun with me Just as long as you’re nice when you’re done with me We can get together and just hold on Darlin’ you... I don’t often get to talkin’ about lovin’ in my songs I have been a cynic for so long Makin’ fun of just about all that I can see except for you and me

Prudes 01:06
Prudes All you prudes are consumed with thoughts of other people's sexual habits You wanna spoil any fun that is queer while they keep screwing like rabbits If consenting adults Be they male, female androgynous, Heterous or homogenous Like to be smeared with tapioca pudding and spanked with inflatable banjos Far be it for you to judge You can’t see it Why hold a grudge? With a nudge and a wink I think you’re jealous of all the fun you’re missing out on Whatcha missing? Who ya missing? How ya missing?

Like a Home 02:46
Like a Home The city is a place with all I ever wanted I grew up with lights in my head But people only make me lonely it's not what I expected I roam the streets turned inside Invisible and silent and I long for the touch of someone real to make this feel like home Like a home How can I make this feel like home Like a home How can I make this feel like home Like a home How can I make this feel like home Like a home How can I make this feel like home It's been so long it's my own fault I slowly drift from day to day Am I really this shy or am I pushing away? The very thing that I desire I avoid and walk alone It's like there's something stopping me from making this a home Like a home... Is home where my heart is, where I started or just where I rest my head I stare at the ceiling of the apartment as I lay thinking in bed I met you the other day at the cafe warm and glowing like a spark You gave me a number, should I call it? Could it be a start?

Things Gettin’ Better Jack and Jill went up the hill and stayed there Later on they came down smiling Jill fell down and had a baby Now they’re payin’ rent Things gettin’ better at the homestead I got pork and beans Things gettin’ better at the homestead We got the new Atari I don’t even care what it means Things gettin’ better at the homestead I got pork and beans Jack and Jill bought a house up on the hill Planted magic beans you know the story Sent Jack junior up the stock Now he’s deep in debt Things gettin’ better at the homestead...
